Anyone watch them? What did you think?
I refused to watch the VP debate this evening because of the moderator. Gwen Ifill should have been removed because of her obvious conflict of interest.
For those who don't know, Ms. Ifill has a pro-Obama book coming out. Yeah...nice UN-biased coverage. I say...no thanks. The only thing I did watch was Governor Palin's closing remarks.
I heard she did well though. Good for her!

Most everyone at work was saying she did well. Even the liberals. The one dig I heard was that she was good at dodging questions. I actually commented, "And they say she has no experience as a politician." I did notice her totally dodge Biden's question about same sex marriage. She made it clear that marriage is for one man and one woman, but when he asked her if she would have different rules regarding their civil rights, she had no response.
I was impressed with her knowledge when she started quoting stats, although the media afterwards suggested that they both fibbed about a lot of stuff. At one point Biden commented that "all they want to do is drill, drill, drill when it comes energy," and they explained why in detail. The democrats were saying that offshore drilling is akin to raping our coastlines, and she explained how ridiculous that notion is. She also talked about how much more oil America has stored away than we even know, and she's ready to tap into it. Meanwhile, she explained that they are totally for alternative energy, although Biden countered that McCain has voted down alternative energy bills twenty times. Of course it's tough to speculate without knowing any of the details of those bills. He certainly may have had good reason.
The biggest issue where the two sides differ is how to deal with our enemies. Obama and Biden want to pull out our troops in a timely manor while somehow talking the Iranians out of nuking Isreal. They claim the real threat is an unstable Afghanistan and that our troops are needed over there instead, but Palin made it clear that a nuclear Iran is an even greater threat. They clearly disagreed on this issue. Palin was enthusiastic about how close America is to victory in Iraq, but Biden believes our efforts have gone on long enough and we need to get out and stop spending so much money over there.
Biden surprised me with how clearly he spoke. Listening to him in some of their rallies he sounded like he was drunk. The liberals at my work said it was because of his "speech impediment," but he definitely had no speech impediment in this debate.
As for the moderator, I thought she sucked because she never let them debate any issues. She'd take their opening responses on each issue, and then would quickly move on to a new subject. There was no real back-and-forth like you'd hope to see in a debate like this. It's not just that doing this is going to help sell her Obama book, but she just flat out stunk.

There was no real back-and-forth like you'd hope to see in a debate like this. It's not just that doing this is going to help sell her Obama book, but she just flat out stunk. I read that it looked like she was trying so hard to appear un-biased, that she was coming off as curt and brusque. I find this whole election to be quite disgusting. Aside from having to put up with the lynch-mob, aka the liberals, attacking Palin in cruel and uncalled-for manners, we have to consider the possibility of becoming an Obamanation. That thought is bone-chilling.

Heh. Obamanation. That was written on our street awhile back.
I agree though. Unfortunately, I see a lot more pro-Obama stuff then McCain.
